Acne Laser Treatment
-

Targets bacteria
IPL is absorbed by porphyrins produced by the acne-causing bacteria, Propionibacterium acnes, which destroys the bacteria and reduces inflammation.
-

Stimulates collagen
IPL light stimulates the production of collagen which improves skin texture and tone over time and reduce the appearance of acne scars.
-

Reduces redness
IPL can reduce the appearance of red or brown areas of skin associated with acne.
-

Improves skin tone and texture
The treatment targets uneven pigmentation, redness, and dullness, leaving your skin looking clearer and more radiant.

Our Process
-

Consultation & Patch Test
We recognize that every client’s needs are unique, which is why we place your safety and satisfaction at the heart of our approach. During a thorough consultation, we’ll discuss your skin goals and walk you through every step of the acne laser treatment process. Your comfort and confidence are our priorities, and we’re here to help you achieve clearer, healthier skin with care you can trust.
-

Treatment
Before your acne laser treatment, we cleanse the treatment area to ensure the Lynton Excelight™ can effectively target the skin for optimal results.
With the Lynton Excelight™, the treatment is non-invasive and virtually painless. The applicator is gently applied to the skin after a thorough cleanse, with no need for anaesthesia. A quick pulse of light is emitted, targeting acne-causing bacteria and reducing inflammation. The process is repeated across the treatment area, leaving your skin ready for smoother, clearer, and more radiant results.
-

Aftercare
After your acne laser treatment, you can return to your normal activities right away. Some mild redness or sensitivity may occur in the treated area within the first 24 hours, but this usually subsides quickly.
In the following weeks, you may notice continued improvement as your skin heals and regenerates. This process helps to reduce active breakouts and even out your complexion over time.
If you have any questions or need post-treatment advice, we’re here to support you and ensure the best possible results for your skin.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
The Acne Laser Treatment is suitable for most skin types; however, it may not be appropriate for individuals with darker skin tones due to the way IPL technology interacts with melanin. During your consultation, we will carefully assess your skin to ensure the treatment is both safe and effective for you.
-
Most clients see noticeable improvements after 3-6 treatments, typically spaced 4-6 weeks apart, depending on the severity of the acne.
-
The treatment is generally comfortable, with most clients describing a mild warming or tingling sensation during the session.
-
While the primary focus is on active acne, the treatment also helps improve the appearance of acne scars by stimulating collagen production and promoting skin repair.
-
There’s minimal to no downtime. You may experience slight redness or sensitivity, which typically subsides within a few hours. You can return to your regular activities straight away.
-
Laser and IPL treatment is most effective for inflammatory acne — including papules, pustules, and cysts — where it targets the bacteria driving the breakout and reduces redness and inflammation. It is less effective for blackheads and whiteheads alone. It can also help improve the appearance of post-acne red marks and early scarring. If you are primarily concerned about dark marks left behind by acne, our pigmentation laser treatment may also be relevant. Charlotte will assess your acne type during your consultation to recommend the most appropriate approach.
-
No. Laser and IPL treatment is contraindicated while taking Roaccutane and for a period of time after finishing the medication, as the drug significantly increases skin sensitivity. You should wait at least six months after completing Roaccutane before having laser treatment. Please disclose all current medications during your consultation.
-
Laser acne treatment can be considered for teenage clients with persistent, moderate to severe acne who have not responded well to topical or medical treatments. Parental consent is required for clients under 18. A thorough consultation is essential to assess suitability given the client's skin maturity and medical history.
-
Q: How does laser acne treatment compare to antibiotics or topical treatments? A: Topical creams and antibiotics can be effective for many patients but come with limitations including resistance, side effects, and the need for ongoing use. Laser treatment targets acne-causing bacteria directly in the skin, reduces inflammation, and stimulates collagen to improve texture — without relying on medication. For clients also dealing with redness or skin flushing alongside their acne, it is worth discussing whether rosacea laser treatment may also be applicable.
-
Laser treatment significantly reduces active acne during and after the course of sessions, but acne is influenced by hormonal, genetic, and lifestyle factors that treatment cannot fully override. Maintenance sessions and a consistent, appropriate skincare routine help keep breakouts at bay long term. Charlotte will discuss realistic expectations and an ongoing management plan during your consultation. Clients who notice dark marks or uneven skin tone following their acne may also benefit from our pigmentation laser treatment.
